BAN KI MOON APPOINTED AS UN CHIEF FOR 2ND TERM

United Nations General Assembly re-elected Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary General of the UN for a further period of five years starting next year.

The General Assembly of 192 members made the appointment after the UN Security Council recommended Ban to the next period.

Later, the UN chief said the UN's role is to guide and look to the future, recognizing the need to act with determination and cooperation.

No other candidate running against 67-year-old former South Korean foreign minister, who succeeded Kofi Annan, four years ago.
