UN Officials Condemned The Deadly Attack On The UN Compound In Nigeria

New York, August 26, 2011 - Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned this morning's attack on the United Nations building in Abuja, where several people were killed or wounded, and says he is sending senior officials in the Nigerian capital to respond to emergencies.

The compound in Abuja, a number of buildings housing the offices of 26 UN humanitarian agencies and development, was hit by a car bomb around 11:00 local time. Hundreds of UN staff have been working on the premises at the time of the attack.

Ban Ki Moon arrives for South Sudan independence day

UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon arrived in Juba on Friday to attend celebrations of the independence of South Sudan on Saturday.

Ban Ki Moon Expects Cyprus Agreement In Fall

Geneva - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon said Thursday he expects the leaders of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots to reach an agreement in October on the future of the divided island of Cyprus.

Ban had a half day of talks with Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu said that they had agreed to intensify their long conversations.

"I have every reason to believe that in October the leaders will be able to report that they have reached the convergence of all the fundamental issues, and will meet that month in New York," said Ban.

Ban Ki-Moon - The President Of Syria Lacks Credibility

UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, still lacks credibility, despite promises of reform, amnesty and dialogue. Ban stressed the right to protest and freedom of will and freedom of expression and to protect civilian lives. He says any measures Assad takes should lead to genuinely inclusive dialogue.

He said: "But I do not see a lot of credibility to what he says because the situation is still like that way and how long this is going on this way and he really take strong action?".

Ban Ki Moon Called Access Humanitarian SYRIA

UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon urged the Syrian leader to allow access of humanitarian access to the country. Ban commented on his arrival in Argentina during his campaign for a second term. He also said the deadly attacks against the government demonstrators "horrific".

He said: "I once again urge President Assad in Syria, so that humanitarian access to affected areas and the Human Rights Council. - The power to assess the mission, which on two cases I have urged him to accept the missions."

Ban Ki Moon Officially Offered To Serve A Second Term As Secretary General Of The United Nations

Ban Ki Moon, announced today that he has formally proposed to serve a second term as Secretary General of the United Nations.

Ban told a press conference at UN Headquarters in New York, he sent a letter to the Member States of the General Assembly and Security Council that he has given himself the discretion to continue to lead the United Nations.
