Yingluck Shinawatra became the first female prime minister of Thailand. She is the younger sister of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted in a 2006 coup. Yingluck's Pheu Thai party won 264 of a possible 500 seats available in the Thai Parliament.
Prime Minister Abhisit conceded defeat after the army backed the Democratic Party managed to win only 160 seats on Sunday.
Speaking at a press conference, Pheu Thai Party leader said that her priority as prime minister would be the economy.
